SOMERSET COUNTY COUNCIL

In 2010, Somerset County Council (SCC) commissioned CWP Ltd to develop a technical report which could be used to help the County assess its approach to the management of waste wood arisings.

The report was written in anticipation of future restrictions on the landfilling of waste wood and plans to develop a number of large WID-compliant biomass power plants within the South West of England.

Our work included an analysis of the volume and flow of wood waste around the County of Somerset and the mapping of strategic supply and demand nodes.  We also assessed various wood waste usage and treatment options with a particular focus on energy recovery.  The report concluded with a number of policy and strategy recommendations which could be adopted by SCC in order to maximise the economic and environmental benefits of wood waste arisings across the County.
