SSE

Scottish and Southern Energy was the first major utility to offer substantial capital funding for biomass heating through the CERT obligation.  This funding was aimed at social housing providers with coal or LPG fired district heating schemes that could make a fuel switch to biomass.

CWP Ltd was appointed by SSE as the managing agent for this Biomass CERT Programme.  Our role included identifying potential sites for the scheme, recruiting social housing providers and delivering detailed feasibility studies for selected sites.   We also worked closely with Ofgem to establish new reporting procedures that would allow SSE to claim the CO2 emissions reductions achieved by the programme against their CERT obligation.
